GLADD

GLADD is the UK's only organisation that unites and represents LGBTQ+ doctors, dentists, medical and dental students from all over the country.

We open our membership to any physician, dentist, medical or dental student who supports the values and constitution that GLADD stands for.

We run events in London and through our regional networks around the noun. Highlights include our AGM dinner, summer and New Year parties, Pride and socials with other LGBTQ+ professional groups.

GLADD has a respected national voice in LGBTQ+ health activism and education, working with leading figures such as the British Medical Association, General Medical Council, Royal Colleges and Parliament. We collaborate with universities and the NHS to further analyze into LGBTQ+ health issues and bring training aimed at empowering those functional in and studying healthcare to tackle discrimination in aid of their LGBTQ+ colleagues and patients.

How to find protected healthcare spaces for LGBTQIA+ communities

Although it is illegal to blatantly discriminate against a person because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, various forms of discrimination still occur within healthcare.

Health disparities can head to serious health risks for LGBTQIA+ people. Some healthcare professionals may provide lower quality look after to LGBTQIA+ people or deny them access to tend altogether. LGBTQIA+ people seeking healthcare because they feel unsafe.

GLMA is confident to be a founding force behind the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory, one of the first national resources of its kind. Originally developed as an exclusive resource for GLMA members, the directory has long served as a trusted link between patients and providers.

In , GLMA partnered with the Tegan and Sara Foundation to reimagine and relaunch the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory as a fully free, widespread resource connecting patients and providers across the U.S. and Canada. Today, the Directory is a modern, accessible platform helping LGBTQ+ people find inclusive, knowledgeable providers in their regions.

With more than 43, searches conducted and 2,+ providers listed in its first year alone, the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory has rapidly become a trusted resource for individuals, families, institutions, and state governments seeking affirming care. The platform includes virtual care options, expanded search functionality, and provider listings in 10 Canadian provinces.
