Straight Guy

The Straight Man in his natural symbiotic relationship with the Prudent Guy.

"Well, the straight guy is never given enough credit Abbott gets no credit for framing a gag, for the architecture, for the support, for the drive. He does everything except the punchline; he's amazing."

Somebody has to set up the joke so the funny guy can deliver the punchline. That's the Straight Man. He rarely gets the entertaining lines, but has to have impeccable timing and delivery so that the comic (the other half of a comedy duo) can hit it out of the park. Bud Abbott (widely considered the greatest Straight Man of all time) had to say, "Who's on First," with just the right degree of earnestness and irritation so that Lou Costello could get huge laughs saying "Whaddya askin' me for?"

The best Straight Men are so good they can sometimes get laughs just by delivering a straight line so well the audience knows what's coming. (This is essentially the basis of Bob Newhart's "telephone" routines: he was playing the Straight Man to nothing.) Other st

&#;Friendships between gay and straight guys can be healing and uniquely satisfying for all involved.&#;   ~ Michael C. LaSala Ph.D., LCSW. Psychology Today.

Heartstone (). Surly Icelandic teen copes with crushes, bullies, and an unhappy family. His sole defender is his gay best friend who’s fallen in treasure with him. The gay friend is sympathetic but he’s there to endure and further the straight boy’s journey. The slo

A lot of straight male reviewers watch at Leaving Metropolis and have a real problem with it because they say there is no way that a straight male would ever decline in love with a gay guy. But having been in one of those relationships three or four times in my life I know it happens very much and I consider there is a level of denial and being threatened that goes on with a lot of straight people, particularly men, and we need to overcome that. ~ Brad Fraser

Toronto playwright Brad Fraser wrote several plays about jaded somethings sleeping with, mistreating and occasionally murdering each other. His operate has more heart than that of Gregg Araki or Brett Easton Ellis as he understands most cruelty comes from pain. A recurring theme in his work is the seduction of men who determine as straight.

This is a common fantasy in gay media, in both pornography and narrative film. (And Eating Out films which are somewhere in between). It usually starts in adolescence as closeted youth increase up with no other outlet for their desires. If it continues into adulthood it can be called experimenting
