In the LGBTQ+ community, covert codes have played a significant role in creating a sense of belonging and safety for individuals who may have faced discrimination or prejudice. These codes allow people to communicate discreetly and identify like-minded individuals without directly revealing their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Within the LGBTQ+ community, secret codes have been used throughout history as a means of protection and connection. Back in the 20th century, the Polari language, a secret language used by gay men in the United Kingdom, served as a way to communicate safely in public spaces where being openly queer was not accepted.
