Tyrese Gibson: Chris Rock should step down as Oscar host

Tyrese Gibson is the latest star to weigh in on the growing controversy over the lack of diversity in the Oscar nominations.

In an interview with Peopleon Wednesday, the Furious 7 actor called for Chris Rock, who was announced as the host of the awards show in October, to step down from the job.

"There is no joke that he can crack," Gibson told the magazine. "There is no way for him to seize the moment and come into this thing and say, 'I'm going to say this and say that I'm going to address the issue but then I'm still going to keep my gig as the host.' The statement that you make is that you step down."

Gibson suggested that if the situation hypothetically involved underrepresentation of LGBT individuals, and Rock was gay, he would have stepped down.

LOS ANGELES: Kevin Harthas once again issued an apology to the LGBTQcommunity for his adj homophobic tweets, while his contemporary Chris Rockhas said his name can be crossed off this year's potential Oscarshosts list.

The controversy over using gay slurs in his past Twitter posts led Hart to step down as the emcee of Academy Awards , after apologising for his comments.

On his SiriusXMradio show, "Straight From the Hart", the comic on Monday said that his words have been "chopped up" following previous apologies.

"Once again, Kevin Hart apologises for his remarks that hurt members of the LGBTQ community. I apologise," he said.

He later explained the original homophobic joke that landed him in trouble.

Nearly a year after he was slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars, Chris Rock addressed the infamous moment in a new Netflix special, "Selective Outrage."

At the Oscars, Rock joked about Jada Pinkett Smith's hair while presenting the award for top documentary feature. Will Smith then walked on stage and took a swing at Rock.

Smith later issued a tearful apology during his acceptance speech for the best actor award, saying, "Love will make you do crazy things."
